Holy Spirit welcomes the Bow Island Ward

press release

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is pleased to announce that, at its April 16, 2014 Meeting, the Board of Trustees approved and ratified an agreement incorporating Bow Island Roman Catholic School District No. 82 into the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 4. The Bow Island Ward is currently part of Medicine Hat Catholic School Division No. 20. The Board of Trustees will now seek Ministerial approval for the transfer to take effect for the 2014/2015 school year.

"As Catholics we are taught that we are always stronger when we stand together," explained Board Chair Terry O'Donnell. "When representatives from the Bow Island Ward Withdrawal Committee approached Holy Spirit about joining our division, we agreed that we needed to support the community's wish to access high quality Catholic education."

"There is considerable planning required in the next couple of months," notes Superintendent Chris Smeaton. "But everybody involved has been very cooperative and I believe the transition will be smooth. St. Michael's School in Bow Island will be an excellent addition to our growing and innovative ‘rurban' school division. We are certainly looking forward to working closely with the community."

St. Michael's School provides Kindergarten to Grade 12 programming to students in the Bow Island town site and area.
