Small fire south of Pincher Creek contained quickly, fire hazard extreme at this time

Toni Lucas

A permitted fire got out of control earlier today on Wednesday, April 30, on Kerr Road approximately 6 miles south of Pincher Creek. The property holder contacted Pincher Creek Fire Department immediately. Pincher Creek responded with a tender and an engine.  Beaver Mines Fire was on standby. The fire was contained to a one quarter acre area.

"With the dry, cured grass, we are in an extreme hazard right now," explained Emergency Services Chief Dave Cox. He said that the conditions can change quickly at this time of year.  Cox encourages people to check the the fire ban website as it is kept up with current information, which may effect even those with a valid burning permit.

At this time a Level II Fire Ban is enacted for the Town of Cochrane due to dry/windy conditions.
