The family-friendly Best of the West Weekend will be following the old Cowboy Poetry's tradition of taking Father's Day weekend for its dates - a terrific way of giving every Dad a real treat and to say thank you for being so great. Bring the whole family, including Gramma, Grandpa and the kids, because this year the organisers have planned something for everyone, and kids under 12 years are FREE!

The older generation will surely appreciate the traditional focus on cowboys and ranching, with some favourite performers singing cowboy songs and telling ranching stories. Younger members of the audience will enjoy this too, for who doesn't relish listening to tales of the old days?

Grown up kids will love the many new Western musicians that are lined up to grace the new stage in the Horseshoe Pavilion, with it's new stage lighting and enhanced sound system.

Little kids will be thrilled to have their faces expertly painted with exciting designs, with sequins and glitter for little cowgirls and strong designs for young cowboys. Balloon animals always have an eternal appeal to both boys and girls, and there may be glittery temporary tattoos, too!

On Saturday there will be Pony Rides for kids, on a choice of quiet and gentle equines – one of which might even be able to carry a small mom or dad! Fully insured professional horse handlers will have helmets available for safety, and the ponies will be led by experienced walkers to make sure everything goes smoothly. What a great way for kids to experience a slice of Western life!

There will be free wagon rides, too, pulled by a pair of gentle giant draft horses. The wagon will be nice and easy to get in to so everyone can take a ride. This year the organisers are planning a route that will take passengers to a very special location where they can disembark and take a fascinating walk round before riding the wagon back to the Horseshoe Pavilion. To find out the wagon's destination, and for more on what else is in store, watch this space next week!
