Pincher Creek Southern Alberta Summer Games Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue was held outside between the arena and and the pool on Tuesday, June 24.  "Your support allows us to show southern Alberta what a fabulous community we have in Pincher Creek," announced Games Chair Brian Wright. "To all the volunteers this evening, as of this morning, we have 250 volunteers registered, with a few more registering tonight." According to Wright the games will include 2200 athletes, including over 400 from the Pincher Creek area.

Volunteers filled benches behind the Recreation Centre.
Council members from the MD of Pincher Creek and the Town of Pincher Creek were in attendance serving the many people that came out for the event.  MD Reeve Brian Hammond and Mayor Don Anderberg spoke to the crowd after their time managing the grill.  "Without the volunteers, we wouldn't have a lot of things in our community," said Reeve Hammond.  "Thank you very much for your part and your willingness to step forward in making this an absolute successful games."

"We have a great organization, starting with the Chair, and the Vice Chair," said Mayor Anderberg.  He spoke of the process from the decision to host the games to now, when hundreds of people are involved. He thanked the staff as well as the volunteers.

Everyone is part of the team
Pincher Creek Regional Coordinator Megan Rainford said that they were up to 425 Pincher Creek athletes registered. "I am really excited to see this all come together and be in a position to offer it to Pincher Creek and area athletes, especially."

The chair of each sport was asked to come to the front so that volunteers could meet with the chairs, and others that were going to help in the area.

Brian Wright thanked both the volunteers and the Pincher Creek Recreation staff for the work that they have already put into getting ready for the games, and the upcoming efforts to make the games happen. Wright reminded everyone that the Opening Ceremonies are planned for Wednesday, July 2 with beef on a bun at 5:30 and ceremonies at 7:00 pm, both at the Agricultural Grounds.
