It was a do or die situation for the Halton Hawks Sr. Girls Rugby team as they could have faced elimination in their first playoff game of the season. The Hawks faced off against the Cardston Cougars on Monday May 25th, ultimately winning a difficult battle 5-0.

Both teams struggled offensively throughout the game, but the Hawks' slight problems were very fixable.  They mostly just had problems with small penalties like offsides and knock-ons which will be worked on in practice before their next game, according to coach Randy Whitehead.

While it was a low scoring game, Cardston did almost score a few different times but the Hawks' endzone defence was especially good for this game, stopping 3 potential scores with hold-ups and punts out of the endzone.

Rebecca Lowry had a strong game for the Hawks, providing a few good carries and tackles, and helping set up the only score of the game. Jayden Kennedy also had a productive game, scoring the try and making a great effort on the point after try, but rang the ball off the upright. The Hawks will be playing their second playoff game on Wednesday May 27th against Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, where they hope to improve on their last game against Churchill, which was a blowout loss.

Update:  The Hawks were blanked by a very wide margin by Winston Churchill High School's Griffins on Wednesday May 27 in the semifinal mentioned above.
