Great Falls, Montana -  U.S. Customs and Border Protection is advising travelers that U.S. Highway 2 is currently closed in Glacier National Park between Essex (East Glacier) and West Glacier Park entrances due to a fire in the park being within a mile of the highway. Trailers and larger vehicles are requested to find alternate routes to the United States.

Travelers at Ports of Peigan and Chief Mountain can use the Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier National Park, going west through the park at St. Mary, Montana. There is a limitation however on vehicle length for this route, so those with boats, campers, and large vehicles are encouraged to reroute through Canada.

Travelers at the Port of Del Bonita with a destination of Kalispell are being advised of the road closure, which gives them the option to return to Canada and go across the Canadian route entering at Port of Roosville. The alternate U.S. route is through the Great Falls area and over through Missoula, which could lengthen a trip by several hours.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
