CNP/Pincher Bantam Ducks defeat Kainai at MCC

Josh Davis

On Saturday October 24 the Crowsnest Pass/Pincher Creek Bantam Ducks (name subject to possible change) hockey team took to the ice, facing off against Kainai at Pincher Creek’s MCC Arena. This season the teams have joined the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) instead of the Spud League.  The Ducks played a strong defensive game, and made significantly more shots on the net than their Kainai counterparts, ultimately winning by a wide margin, 16-2. They were less successful the following day, losing a close away game against Lethbridge 5-7.

The Ducks earned a 4-1 lead in the first period against Kainai. CNP/Pincher #9 Spencer Dorge scored two goals in this period one unassisted, and one assisted by #5 Brayden Scotton and #18 Lyndon Ewen. #2 Easton Fitzpatrick and #13 Hunter Gudmundson scored one each, both assisted by #8 Jace Lewis. #11 Trez Man Day Chief scored Kainai’s sole goal of the period, assisted by #9 Trace Crow Chief. There were two penalty minutes on each side.

He would score one more goal in this period, unassisted. Dorge scored another two goals, one of which was assisted by Scotton again. #7 Matthew Merritt and #14 Sante Canderan each scored one goal unassisted for the Ducks. #12 Raymond Eagle Bear Jr. scored the final goal of the period for Kainai during a power play, assisted by #16 Tanner Weasel Head, and #4 Talyn Bruised Head. Both the Ducks and Kainai faced twelve penalty minutes in this period.

Dorge made his fifth goal of the game, assisted by #11 Kyle Gault. #17 Declan French scored one goal, unassisted. #12 Abigail Cryderman scored one, assisted by Canderan and Merrit. French then scored a goal of his own, assisted by Ewen. The Thunder had successfully kept the play off of their side of the rink, and the results were tangible. They also suffered all of the penalties in this period, to the tune of six minutes.

Ducks goaltenders #1 Wesley Krampe and #31 Aiden Douglas each each played approximately 30 minutes. Each faced 20 shots, and missed a single save. The Ducks made 63 shots against Kainai goaltender #1 Brekken Heavy Shields.

The Ducks have played 4 CAHL seeding round games so far, winning one, tying one, and losing two:
