RCMP Grande Prairie warn of Imposter Police Officer

Grande Prairie, AB - Grande Prairie RCMP are warning the public to be on alert after motorist pulled over and stopped for a vehicle that was flashing blue and red lights and a siren behind her on Highway 2 near Webster Road.

On Thursday, January 7th, 2016 at approximately 11:30 p.m., RCMP received a complaint from a female who reported that a male in an unknown unmarked police vehicle activated its lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop with her on Highway 2. The unknown male, who was not wearing a uniform, requested her documentation and asked her to exit her vehicle, saying, “it was cold outside”. The male did not provide a badge number or his name. The female drove way and was unharmed.

The male is described as Caucasian, tall with medium length hair. He was unshaven and unkempt, wearing a heavy-duty work coat with black pants. It is believed he was driving an SUV.

Grande Prairie RCMP are continuing their investigation into this incident and ask drivers to be vigilant and report anything similarly suspicious to the Grande Prairie RCMP.

If anyone identifies himself or herself as a police officer, either in uniform or in plain clothes and makes unusual or inappropriate requests, the public should:
Request to see identification or other proof that they are in fact a police officer;
Ask the police officer to have a marked police vehicle respond;
Should they fail to comply with these requests, advise the officer that you are going to call 9-1-1 to confirm the officer's identity.
