Town of Pincher Creek to waive 2015 arena rental fee for Chamber of Commerce trade show

Council for the Town of Pincher Creek decided during their regular meeting on Monday, January 11, 2016 to waive the rental fee of the MCC Arena for the mid September 2015 Trade Show hosted by the Pincher Creek Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber members appeared as a delegation before council at their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. They told council the Chamber is struggling both financially and for a wider volunteer and membership base. They reported the trade show had a lower turnout than anticipated, in terms of number of booths paid for by businesses and attendance by the public, and requested relief from the $2,125.00 weekend rental fee.

Councillor Lorne Jackson said the Chamber of Commerce is a valuable organization, and the trade show is a good opportunity for a number of local businesses to be showcased in the area. Council discussed the possibility of forgiving a 75% portion of the fee. CAO Laurie Wilgosh said, "It's really just revenue that we wouldn't get." Council voted unanimously to waive the full rental cost.
