Man charged in relation to 2015 Stand Off homicide

Stand Off, AB - A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of Brittany Medicine Crane whose body was discovered on the afternoon of May 21, 2015, when Blood Tribe Police Service were dispatched to a residence in Stand Off after having received a report of an unresponsive woman at that location.

In addition to members of the Blood Tribe Police Service, Emergency Medical Services personnel also attended the scene on that day to provide assistance, however, it was determined that the woman was deceased. Police commenced an investigation into the death of the 24-year-old woman who was identified by family members as Brittany Medicine Crane.

Police involved in the investigation included members from the Blood Tribe Police Service as well as members from the Red Deer RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Lethbridge Forensic Identification Section and Calgary Police Dog Services.

After a thorough ten-month investigation, police arrested Allen Day Rider on Friday, March 4, 2016 and have charged him with one count of manslaughter in relation to Ms. Medicine Crane’s death. Rider is scheduled to appear in provincial court on March 7th, 2016 at the Cardston Court House.

In light of the fact that this matter is now before the court, police will not be making any additional comments outside of this media release.
