Pincher Creek Greyhound agent discovers smoking package, calls PCES

Toni Lucas

Pincher Creek Emergency Services (PCES) responded to a possible hazardous material situation earlier today. Crow Signs and Embroidery is an agent for Greyhound at the Ranchland Mall Pincher Creek. Before 9:00 am on Monday, May 9, owner Doug Paton was sorting packages when one of the packages in the shipping area appeared to release smoke. "It looked like smoke when I moved it. When you don't know what it is, but it looks like smoke, you phone the fire department," said Paton.

Investigation discovered a container of liquid nitrogen that was properly labeled and packaged. The cloud of released gas may have been a result of a pressure release valve, explained Deputy Fire Chief Pat Neumann. The package and contents were deemed safe and will continue to its destination.
