Pincher's Hawks eye provincials after another big baseball win at home

Josh Davis - On Monday May 16 the Halton Hawks prep baseball team hosted the Highwood Mustangs at Sproule Field in Pincher Creek. The Hawks gained a four run lead in the second inning, and while the game remained tight they ultimately persevered, winning 7-4.

For the Mustangs #4 Josh Skory pitched four and a third innings, while #10 Troy Kowal came in in relief. For the Hawks #52 Tyson Goodreau pitched four innings, with Hawks #4 Mitchell Zoratti closing it out.

Hawks Assistant Coach Tristan Doell said the win could get them a good placing in the provincials in Medicine Hat. “It’s huge,” “We’ll carry that into provincials. I think that puts us in a pretty good spot. We’ve got another big game on Thursday though, against Cardston.”

“This was a very good game,” said Doell. “They are hitting the ball. Their defense was helping the pitching, so that makes everyone’s job a lot easier. It was a very good team win today.” Doell said that High River has a strong team. “They’re always good competition, and they showed it tonight too. It could have went either way. The game was really tight through the whole way. We just got lucky to get up on them early, and then close it out for the win.”

Mitchell Zoratti closed out the last three innings quickly, securing the Hawks victory
