Faith - what is it?

Chris Ney - Faith is a common subject, talked about and explored all over the globe. It is talked about over coffee, it is talked about over food, it is talked about over a beer; all of which I have done from one time to another. It can be a peaceful conversation, and it can be a loud conversation. One thing is for certain that everybody has a view or opinion of faith and what it looks like. Some look to the creation and have faith in that some look to evolution and put their faith in science. A great majority of people put their faith in something bigger though, something or someone like a creator, higher power, unknown God. We all from time to time look above and wonder, we look above and ask for help when in need and we look above and yell when we don’t understand. It is normal to do this.

Faith is one of those things that we can’t see, we can’t touch, and we can’t even smell it yet even if we pretend to ignore it, we live by it everyday. We get up and breath trusting that air will be there, we turn the tap and water comes out and although it is something simple with live with the faith that it will happen. Before you stop reading thinking this is going nowhere bear with me. Lets define faith “having complete confidence or trust is something or someone”. That begins to help see this picture come true. Is there perhaps another definition of faith that might explain it a little deeper?

Hebrews 11:1 says this to define faith” faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Means that faith is also structured around believing in the things we can’t see but have the evidence all around us that they exist. Take for instance God, we cannot see Him but He is there all around us. We can look to the mountains and see His masterpiece in creation. We can look to the sky at night and see how He placed everyone into the perfect place, but we cannot see God Himself. Does that mean He is not there, no it doesn’t. That is the beautiful thing about faith is that we know He is right there even though we cannot se Him. We also know that through faith we can have a relationship with Him and that He wants to have a relationship with us. So much so that He was willing to sacrifice His only son so that we could know Him. What a great love from the creator of all things, John 3:16 “for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.”

Faith can sometime feel like taking a jump over a canyon that is to wide without a safety net, and yet when putting your faith into the creator of all things it all of a sudden can make sense. God loves you and wants to have relationship with you, will you put your faith in Him or will you put your faith in the world that is bound to let you down. Faith in Jesus equals real life

You are loved
