Barnwell man arrested on multitude of charges

RCMP Alberta – On December 9, 2016 Taber/Vauxhall RCMP conducted a search of a residence and seized property obtained by crime, a prohibited weapon and a large quantity of cocaine and methamphetamines of substantial value.

The seizures stemmed from a request for assistance from Coaldale RCMP after one of their officers attempted to arrest a male with outstanding warrants. The male fled in a vehicle.  Coaldale RCMP didn’t attempt to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety. The male was located a short time later by Taber/Vauxhall RCMP at a residence near Barnwell and was arrested by Taber/Vauxhall RCMP officers without further incident. Subsequent to his arrest, a search of his residence uncovered numerous items which had been obtained illegally.

29-year-old Kousuke Koby Kano has been charged with six Criminal Code offences, two charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and four charges under the Traffic Safety Act. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Lethbridge Provincial Court on December 15, 2016.

This incident is now a matter before the courts and is subject to ongoing investigation. No further information will be provided at this time.
